Tuesday’s Thought:  What if you were never born?

Do you know that your life touches far more people than you realize EVERY day? Often times we feel so insignificant in the overall scheme of things & we say that we don’t really matter. I beg to differ my friend! Consider this: What about that man you smiled at today that you didn’t know? Your smile prevented him from taking his life. What you didn’t know is that he said in his heart that no one truly cared and dared God to have a total stranger just simply smile at him. Your simple kindness not only saved his life but it prevented a catastrophic chain of events that affected his immediate family, friends, and coworkers, which could easily be a number in the hundreds. Not to mention that he would now be spending his eternity in HELL! God decides every aspect of our life from the geographical location to the time and history we are born even down to our socio-economic status.

Acts 17:24  God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 25  Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; 26  And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 27  That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

So before you begin complaining about your life and the situation you currently find yourself in– remember that everything has a purpose in your life and most importantly someone elses life!

I had a bumpy ride last week. Sometimes we get so caught up in the ride we forget to put our safety gear on and buckle up! Depending on what type of terrain you are on you might need to throw in a helmet AND safety vest. What happens in our daily life is a direct reflection of our spiritual life. We get so caught up in the turmoil that we forget to assess our spirit walk.  When we get cut off in the fast lane, instead of shouting and blaming the other person shouldn’t we show patience? When someone reacts to our insanity in a not so loving way should we yell back or give a soft answer and admit to our wrong? I had to swallow a huge pill last week and the pill was called HUMILITY. It is funny how the very thing that we need is seen as weakness. Let’s look at some ways humility is defined:

 Humbleadjective

  •  Modest and unassuming in attitude and behavior
  •  Relatively low in rank and without pretensions

 Or as a transitive verb

  • To make somebody feel less important.
  • To degrade somebody

We see this word has a negative however; the Word of God lets us know that He can only deal with the humble heart. In God’s eyes the direct opposite of humble is pride. Pride or being proud in most terms epitomizes a positive attribute to have.

Pride – noun::: arrogance, self respect, satisfaction

Proud – adjective::: pleased, projecting, independent, rewarding, arrogant, impressive

As we can see in both there is only one word listed in the negative. God sees pride as something that He cannot and will not deal with. In fact, He says that he will judge and punish the proud. The word proud is referenced 47 times and pride 46 times and in all they are not reflected in a positive light with the Lord. The bottom line is that He judges and discards those who are prideful because pride says that I can do this without you God and I really don’t need your help! I have my own mind and I am independent!

Psalms 14:1b - The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.

Being humble is a decision, a choice and when we decide that this is what we are going to do and be – The Lord will grace us through any situation that may seem difficult.

1 Peter 5:5 - Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

When we decide to take the low place we put others first – their feelings, their concerns, and their needs. This way we can truly serve one another with a humble heart.

Philippians 2:3 – Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
